Of Blood and Lions

Big Cats

Lions are magnificent animals that have a difficult life, a life that’s getting more challenging with each passing day. Whether life on this planet happened by cosmic chance or as the result of some intricate planning, I believe everyone can agree that our existence on this Earth is a gift not to be squandered.

lion mapThe natural world is made up of thousands of checks and balances. When one species is disturbed or disappears, the whole balance of our planet is put in jeopardy. Big cats such as lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars and cheetahs are part of that circle of life and need large tracts of land on which to live and raise their families. The fact is that their populations have been in steep decline since the beginning of the twentieth century and are now at critically low levels (see lion map).

As the human race continues to increase in numbers, to the point where, just recently, the world population hit seven billion, there is less and less room for these magnificent beasts of the jungle. Your purchase of this book will help to stem that decline, because fifty percent of the book’s proceeds will be donated to the National Geographic “Big Cats” Wildlife Conservation Program.

Please visit National Geographic’s website and consider an additional donation to one of their conservation programs.
